What Is Remote Online Notarization?
Remote Online Notarization (RON) allows a notary public to perform a notarization through approved audio-video communication technology instead of requiring the signer and notary to be physically together.
Florida law authorizes registered Florida online notaries to perform online notarizations using technology and procedures designed to verify the identity of the signer and securely document the notarial act.
This means that, when your document qualifies for online notarization, you may be able to complete the process from your home, office or another suitable location.
You do not necessarily have to travel to a Miami notary office.

How Online Notarization Works
Our Remote Online Notarization process is designed to make the experience straightforward.

Call us before scheduling so we can determine what type of document you have, whether witnesses are required and whether online notarization is appropriate for your situation.
2. Schedule Your Online Notarization
Once the requirements are confirmed, we will provide available appointment times and instructions for completing the session.
3. Submit Your Document
Your document must be provided electronically, generally in PDF format, before the notarization session so the notary can prepare for the appointment.
Do not sign the document in advance unless we specifically instruct you to do so.
4. Complete Identity Verification
Before the notarization can be performed, your identity must be verified using the procedures required for Florida online notarization.
This may include presentation and analysis of a government-issued identification credential and identity-proofing questions or another compliant identity-verification method.
5. Meet With the Online Notary
You will connect with the Florida online notary through a secure audio-video session.
The notary will communicate with you in real time, review the required information and complete the applicable notarial act.
6. Electronically Sign and Notarize
After the required identity and notarial procedures are completed, the document is electronically signed and notarized.
7. Receive Your Completed Document
After the notarization is completed, your executed electronic document will be provided according to the delivery arrangements discussed with you.
What Do I Need for an Online Notarization?
To complete a Remote Online Notarization appointment, you generally need:

Do I Need a Social Security Number for Online Notarization?
A Social Security number is not specifically required by Florida law for every online notarization.
Florida’s online-notarization law requires the online notary to establish the identity of the principal through methods that include government-issued identification, credential analysis and identity proofing, unless the principal is personally known to the notary.
However, the technology platform used by Miami Notary may require additional information as part of its identity-verification process.
For example, if the RON platform used for your appointment requires a Social Security number or other information to complete its identity-proofing process, that is a platform verification requirement and should not be confused with a blanket Florida statutory requirement.

Can I Use an Online Notary if I Am Outside Florida?
In many circumstances, yes.
Florida law allows a Florida online notary public who is physically located in Florida to perform an online notarization even when the principal or witnesses are physically located outside Florida.
If you are located outside Florida, additional requirements may apply, including confirmation that you want the notarization performed by a Florida online notary and under Florida law.
Because acceptance requirements can also depend on the document and the receiving authority, contact us before scheduling if you are outside Florida.
Do I Have to Be a U.S. Citizen or Florida Resident?
Not necessarily.
Florida’s RON statute does not establish a blanket requirement that every person receiving an online notarization must be a U.S. citizen or Florida resident.
What matters is whether the notarization can legally and technically be completed under Florida’s online-notarization requirements and whether the identity-verification process can be successfully completed.
If you are located outside the United States or are not a U.S. resident, contact us before scheduling so we can explain the applicable requirements.
What If I Fail the Identity Verification?
Online notarization requires successful identity verification.
The RON technology may use knowledge-based authentication or another compliant identity-proofing method. If the required identity-verification process cannot be completed, the online notary may be unable to proceed with the notarization.
If your identity verification attempt is unsuccessful, additional attempts or a new appointment may be subject to the platform’s procedures and applicable fees.
Miami Notary does not control the identity-verification databases or automated security systems used by the RON technology.
Do I Need a Witness?
Some documents require witnesses while others do not.
Whether witnesses are necessary depends on the document and the applicable law governing the transaction.
If witnesses are required, let us know when you schedule your appointment so we can explain the available options and requirements.
Do not assume that a witness is unnecessary simply because your document is being notarized online.
What Documents Can Be Notarized Online?
Many documents can be notarized electronically, but eligibility depends on the type of document, the applicable law and the requirements of the person or organization receiving the document.

Powers of Attorney
Powers of attorney are frequently notarized and may be eligible for remote online notarization. If the document will be used in a real estate transaction, financial transaction or another regulated setting, confirm that the receiving institution accepts a remotely notarized document.
Affidavits
Affidavits and sworn statements may often be completed through online notarization when the applicable requirements are satisfied.
Authorization Letters
Letters authorizing another person to act on your behalf may be eligible for online notarization depending on the receiving organization.
Travel Consent Documents
Parental consent and minor travel documents may be eligible for online notarization. Check with the airline, government agency or receiving authority if a specific format is required.
Business Documents
Certain corporate, business and commercial documents may be notarized electronically when permitted by law and accepted by the receiving party.
Court and Legal Documents
Some court-related documents can be notarized online. However, court rules and filing requirements vary, so acceptance should be confirmed before proceeding.
Online Notary for Documents Being Used Internationally
If your notarized document will be used outside the United States, tell us before the notarization.
International documents may require additional authentication after notarization, including an apostille or another form of legalization.
For example, a document notarized online in Florida may subsequently need a Florida apostille if it is being presented to a country that participates in the Hague Apostille Convention and the document qualifies for Florida apostille processing.

Important
The fact that a document can be notarized online does not automatically mean that every foreign government, court, bank, embassy, consulate or other receiving authority will accept it.
If the document is being prepared for use outside the United States, confirm the receiving authority’s requirements before scheduling.
Online Notary for Real Estate Documents
Remote online notarization can be particularly useful for real estate transactions when the transaction and receiving parties permit electronic notarization.
However, lenders, title companies, underwriters and attorneys may impose their own requirements.
